Here are some frequently asked questions about Yellow Fever Vaccinations (YFV) from India:
Is yellow fever vaccination required?
All visitors travelling from India to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Nigeria, Mali, Ghana and Ethiopia are required to be vaccinated against yellow fever with an international certificate proving so.
While there is no health check on departure from India, you will be checked upon your return. Thus, it is mandatory to be in possession of a valid international vaccination certificate of yellow fever before your departure. This certificate must be issued from an approved vaccination center.
Visitors travelling directly from India to South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia or Zimbabwe do NOT need a yellow fever vaccination. However, any person entering these countries from an infected area or having been in transit through infected areas must be in possession of a valid International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever.
The full list of Yellow Fever endemic countries:
Africa: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Sudan, Togo, and Uganda.
South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guyana, Guyana, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.
When should I get the vaccination?
The yellow fever vaccination needs to be given at least ten days before arriving in a yellow-fever-endemic area and must be administered at an approved yellow fever vaccination center.
What documents are required?
To get an valid certification of yellow fever vaccination, you are required to bring your original passport and your international travel tickets. It is also recommended to have Rs 300 in change (cost of vaccination at govt. institutes).
What time should I show up for the vaccination?
Most public health centres open at 9 am, Monday – Friday. However, there is a limited quota of vaccinations issued everyday (less than 100 usually). Thus, it is recommended to show up earlier in order to be ahead in the line.
How long is the yellow fever vaccine valid for?
The yellow fever vaccination certificate is valid for ten years, after which a booster shot is recommended.
Can I be exempted from producing a vaccination certificate?
The under mentioned persons are exempted from production yellow fever vaccination certificate:
- Infants below the age of six months.
- Any person suffering from some chronic illness and has poor resistance and is thereby exempted from being vaccinated.
- Crew and passengers of an aircraft transiting through an airport located in yellow fever infected area provided the Health Officer is satisfied that such persons remained within the airport premises during the period of stay.
What are the re-entry requirements by the Ministry of Health?
The Ministry of Health, Government of India, has issued an advisory for passengers coming/returning to India from yellow fever endemic countries. Please read the full advisory here: click to view PDF.

Can I get the vaccination in Kenya?

Dr.N.N.ANGIRAS says
I had vaccination against yellow fever from IIC New Delhi on 10 March,2006. Now I again want to go to African Country Eritrea for job . Do I require vaccination again. If not can I submit the photocopy of that certificate as a proof as the original certificate was submit for visa in 2006.
Kindly guide.
Dr. N.N.Angiras
The Chalo Team says
Hello Dr Angiras,
The Yellow Fever Vaccination is valid for 10 years. Since you were vaccinated in 2006, your certificate would still be valid. However, since you don’t have the original certificate and only a photocopy, this can pose to be a problem. You may be stopped on your re-entry to India. We recommend that you get a new vaccination certificate before you leave for Eritrea. Fortunately, the vaccine is now easily available and you can get it at the above centres.
Hope this helped!
Dr Yeshwant Narayangiri Goswami says
What about the people above the age of 65 yrs who are being refused vaccinations in India? How can they travel to Kenya as Kenyan authorities will certainly stop them?
tanvi says
Hi Yeshwant, on what grounds are they being refused? In our experience, the medical officers usually check your health and then do give the vaccination even if you are a senior citizen.
Kashif says
Kenyan Authorities have no right to stop for yellow fever. You will be stopped on returning to India or to a non endemic contry. Even in India They will let you go after keeping you in Quarantine for 5 days.

Can I get yellow fever vaccination on the basis of scanned copy of passport and Itinerary.
Original vaccination certificate may be produced when I show you my original passport.
or any other possibility that you can suggest me so that I can travel to brazil within few days of my VISA receiving.
Hopefully I will get my visa at end of next week.and I wants to fly on 11th .
Any suggestion from your side will be highly appreciable.

The Chalo Team says
Hi Anil, Unfortunately, a scanned copy of your passport will not do. You need your original passport when you go to the vaccination center. As a suggestion, you can request the Brazilian Embassy to issue your visa as soon as possible so that you can receive the vaccination in time for your travel.

I have to travel on 1st of may, please also advise will there be any problem at immigration check counter in delhi because I am willing to get visa on arrival

Kolkata or Lucknow will be the closest centres. (Please see the table above for full details). You need to get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel. Visa on arrival depends on which country you are travelling to. VoA in Kenya is usually quite straightforward.

Rahul says
I am working in Tata Consultancy Services. I was not told by Delhi Travel team to do this vaccination when I was in India. I came here in Chile on 18 Oct,13 via Amsterdam-Panama City. Now, please clarify do I have to do the vaccination here in Chile, before I return to India for vaccation,or it depends on the flight routes I take to India(Sou Paola,Beones aires,Doha,South africa etc). Please explain in detail. Thanks.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Rahul, You do not need the vaccination if you travelled only to Chile. Panama, on the other hand is a yellow fever endemic country and India requires the yellow fever vaccination certificate upon re-entry. Please see this document by the Ministry of Health, which states: “All the International travelers arriving in India within 6 days of departure from any yellow fever endemic country are required to possess (in original) a valid yellow fever certificate of vaccination or prophylaxis as per the model released by WHO from a Yellow fever vaccination centre designated by the country. ”
The full document can be accessed here.
Francis Sequeira says
My yellow fever vaccinationation certificate issued ten year ago by Mumbai PHO seamans medical health organization, expires early next year. Can I take a booster shot in an African country where I work and get a valid certificate for that effect?
The Chalo Team says
Hi Francis, While there have been reports that a booster shot is no longer necessary (according to WHO), we still recommend getting your certificate renewed before re-entering India. You can this done from any country issuing a valid international vaccination certificate of yellow fever. Just ensure that there is at least a 10-day gap between renewing the certificate and re-entering India.
Reeth Oberoi says

Hi Reeth, yes, that will be fine at immigration in India. Have a good trip!
Arun Kumar says

Hi , My parents are travelling to south Africa through Kenya, they are supposed to fly on 17th Dec 2013, are they required to be vaccinated for yellow fever, if yes, can you please let us know where in mumbai they can get the same done and get certificate , they stay at ambernath and are old .Further if not required is there any document they should carry to get exemption as they are travelling alone and are elderly.Desperately awaiting your reply. Thanks for your help in advance
The Chalo Team says
Hi Anuja, it is recommended to get the YF vaccination even if you are transiting through a yellow fever endemic country. However, since you say your parents are elderly, they can get a medical waiver (Travellers over the age of 60 years). From http://doh.gov.za/: Individuals who, for medical reasons should not have a yellow fever vaccine, should be in possession of a letter from their travel physician. The waiver letter should state that the yellow fever vaccine is contra-indicated in the traveller based on medical grounds. The waiver
letter should be written on the letterhead stationery of the clinic and contain the signature of the physician and stamp used to validate the International Certificate of Vaccination. In Mumbai, APHO, Mumbai Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday &
Friday Registration: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM Vaccination timings:

Thanks

Hi Atul, You should get your vaccination at least 10 days before your departure. You need to carry your passport and confirmed air tickets. Please call and confirm.

The Chalo Team says
Hi Vikas, we recommend Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for the vaccination in Delhi. The vaccine is currently available. There is no waiting list as such; however, a queue forms early morning at the centre, and the vaccine is given first-cum-first-served to the first ~100 people every morning. You are required to bring your original passport and your international travel tickets. It is also recommended to have Rs 300 in change (cost of vaccination at govt. institutes). Please check the end of this document for a full list of government approved vaccination centres in Delhi.

Hi Sapna, Yes, you do need YF vaccination if you are travelling to Argentina. The US port authorities will most likely check for a valid international YF certificate before allowing you entry.

Hello, I am a breastfeeding motger of a 3 month old child I will be travelling to krnys next month..I was vaccinated for yellow fever in 2002..now it hss expired. I have heard this vaccine is not advisable for infants as well as mothers breastfeeding. .please advice what I need to do to travel abroad without any issues from health authority at airport here and in kenya.

The Chalo Team says
According to WHO, the vaccine should be avoided during breast-feeding. To avoid complications at the airport, it is best to get a signed letter stating the same from a government authorized vaccination centre.

That is definitely not the official charge of the vaccine. The usual price is Rs 300 at govt-authorized centres.

Dear Sir, I am currently working at Tanzania and planning to bring my wife and 9 month old daughter. I have heard that VFV can be given 9 month old baby, but I checked with RML hospital, the refused to provide YFV for my baby. They suggested to come after baby became one year. Is it possible for me to bring my wife and daughter without YFV? will Delhi airport immigration officers will allow us to travel Tanzania? still my wife feeding my baby, does she can also travel without YFV?
Kindly suggest me.
Srini
The Chalo Team says
It’s not recommended to give the YFV to children below the age of 6 months. If RML refuses to give the vaccine, they should state so in a signed and stamped letter.

Hi Team Chalo Africa,
I have a collegue here in Kenya who wasn’t informed about YFV before he traveled here. Now he is in Kenya without vaccine. I’m sure he will be getting stopped when he returns. What can he possibly do to get out of airport while coming back..?
The Chalo Team says
He should get the vaccination in Kenya with the certificate, preferably 10 days before he returns to India.
DK says
Hi,
I came back from zambia last week. I am feeling very dizzy and it’s like a vertigo. There is slight head ache also. Is there a possibility of these being symptoms of YF?
I stay in Nasik, near Mumbai. Where can I get it tested
?
I did take vaccination before going…
The Chalo Team says
Hi DK, If you’ve received the YF vaccine, you most probably are not suffering from yellow fever. However, please consult your local general physician. He should be able to advise you better.
amit says
Hi,
Is Travel Safe, Noida is authorized to issue yellow fever vaccination certificate.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Amit, Chalo Africa only recommends government authorized YF centres (as mentioned in the list above). However, please read the comment left below by Dr Gaurav Gupta, MD of TravelSafe Clinics, to know more about TravelSafe accreditations.
At the same time, we did notice this caution on the FAQs page of TravelSafe website: “Q: How can I be sure that the vaccination taken from you would be accepted by my embassy / immigration etc.?”
“A: We have been providing Yellow Fever Vaccine since 2005, and thousands of clients have successfully taken the vaccination and traveled to different countries. In fact, a lot of our present business is by word of mouth publicity from past vaccine takers. However, we do NOT guarantee that you will not face any problems at embassy / immigration, since we are unable to interact with these authorities. Our certificates are displayed on our website, and we would be happy to show you the originals, if asked nicely :)”
Hence, Chalo Africa recommend only government authorized centres.
Gaurav Gupta says
This is a wonderful source of accurate information regarding Yellow Fever vaccination. I really enjoyed reading the post & the comments.
TravelSafe Clinic has 3 branches at present in NOIDA, Chembur in Mumbai & Mohali at Chandigarh.
We are an ISO certified ISTM approved travel health specialist group of doctors. We are approved by Sanofi Pasteur, the manufacturers of Yellow Fever Vaccine – STAMARIL – the only French vaccine brand available in private sector in India. The International certificate of vaccination is directly sourced from WHO and is as per IHR 2005 guidelines. We have been providing Yellow Fever Vaccinations (& other travel vaccines & travel health information) since 2005 and have provided more than 10,000 doses without any problems to any traveler to African & South American countries.
While government centers are certainly cheaper, the hassle of standing in lines, and generally rude staff and use of a chinese / russian generic medicine that is used to inject 5 – 10 people from a single vial are some of the reasons thousands of people have come to our centers in these 3 locations,

My friends have taken the shots at manipal hospital Bangalore in 2012 and now are travelling again
to kenya is this valid, if not can the shot be retaken at PHI and is this harmful to take again

Hi Monish, we don’t recommend taking the shots again. Please check with your doctor whether this is safe. We recommend government issued certificates. However, there have been instances where privately issued certificates have been accepted by immigration officials.
Siva Kumar says
Hi,
I am planning a three-week trip to Brazil from Jun 25th. I wanted to know if while returning it will be ok with Indian immigration if I take the vaccine a couple of days (4-5 days) before my departure to Brazil, that is on June 20/21? Most travel bulletins suggest the vaccination be taken 10 days before departure. That, I suppose, is because the vaccine takes effect after 10 days. Will there be any problem at the immigration counter while returning to India if I take the vaccination a couple of days before departure and if the date of return is more than 10 days after I take the vaccination?
The Chalo Team says
Hi Siva, While you shouldn’t have a problem with Indian immigration, it is still advisable to take the vaccine 10 days before entering a YF endemic country.
Rajveer says
Hi Team
I have never travelled to any country infected with Yellow Fever. I shall be flying from India to Kenya via DOHA , which too is a un-infected country. Kindly confirm if I still need the Yellow Fever Vaccination done and a certificate issued or can I omit it. Will I have any legal troubles in Kenya or on returning to India.
Regards
The Chalo Team says
Hi Rajveer, Kenya is a YF endemic country according to WHO and the Indian govt. You need both the YF vaccination certificate and polio vaccination certificate before travelling to Kenya.
Janhavi says
Hi, there are places in Pune to get yellow fever vaccinations but they aren’t mentioned in your list of centres. Can i still get it from those clinics?
If not can you tell me the closest vaccination centre in Pune?
The Chalo Team says
Hi Janhavi, The list above is of govt-approved centres. Private clinics also give the vaccine, however there is no guarantee that these certificates will held valid by immigration officials. According to the Ministry of Health Advisory, the nearest govt. approved vaccination centre is Mumbai. There were reports that a new centre would be opened at B J Medical College, Pune, soon. Please call and confirm.

The Chalo Team says
Hi Seshank, You need to get the vaccination at least 10 days before travelling for the vaccine to take effect. If you take the vaccine asap and return to India after 10 days, there is a chance Indian immigration officials will not bother you. However, there is no guarantee.
Carlos de Souza says
Are yellow fever vaccination certificates issued by Travel Safe Clinic, Chembur ACCEPTED by passport authorities at Mumbai International Airport after returning from Peru and Bolivia ?

I am a seafarer and I took my yellow fever vaccine in March 2005 and will be valid till March 2015. i will be joining ship by August this year for next 8 months. Can i take this vaccine now only to keep my certificate valid. as i will not be able to sail after March 2015 without valid certificate. Immediate reply will be highly appreciated.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Sumit, Yes, it is recommended you take the vaccination now.
Sumit Madaan says
Thanks for the reply.
sir, is it safe to take vaccine before completion of 10 years span. wont it have any side effects?
Is it necessary to inform doctor about my previous yellow fever vaccination and brand & batch no. of the previous vaccine.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Sumit, According to WHO “A single dose of yellow fever vaccine is sufficient to confer sustained immunity and life-long protection against yellow fever disease and a booster dose of yellow fever vaccine is not needed.” However, the Indian Ministry of Health still recommends revaccination every ten years. Generally, the dangers associated with being revaccinated are much lower than the first time you were vaccinated. If you get vaccinated before the completion of the ten year period, your certificate will be valid immediately for 10 years. If you get vaccinated after the completion of 10 years, you will have to wait 10 days before your certificate becomes valid. The certificate itself will carry information regarding vaccination date, manufacturer and batch number. Nonetheless, we still recomend that you verify with your doctor or with the doctor at the vaccination center that this is safe.
Surajit Borkotokey says
Dear all,
I am from Dibrugarh Assam…I am going to Sao Paulo…I am told that I can get the vaccine in Dibrugarh Assam Medical College also…with a certificate from the Joint Director of State Health Department…However I am not sure whether this will be valid or this is an arrangement only during the World cup? I am going to China next Wednesday and will be back to India on 17th July. Immediately after that on 23rd I have to fly to Brazil…So the ten day requirement can not be met after my coming back from China…so I need to act within 2/3 days…Please suggest…
The Chalo Team says
Hi Surajit, Firstly, lucky you – World Cup! If the government authorities have attested your certificate, it should be valid. However, please make sure it looks like the international certificate in the picture above. Otherwise there may be problems at immigration. You should get the vaccination in the next few days.

I have a flight to catch to Colombia via Paris from India. My yellow fever vaccination is 6 days old. Will I be allowed to board the flight?
The Chalo Team says
Hi Ankita,
We hope you’ve been able to board your flight. We are not aware of Columbia’s procedures. However usually it is the Indian immigration officials on your return who are more careful to ensure that 10 days have passed.
MM Majumdar says
Hi
I am planning to travel Brazil from London on 17th Aug. I would be taking Yellow Fever vaccination on 14th. I am scheduled to come back to London on 24th and fly to India on 25th. I have 2 questions.
Is the YF vaccination certificate issued in London is valid for India and would qualify for me to enter India
As I would fall in the clause of visiting YF country in the last 6 days, should I take any any additional care while entering India or should I postpone my visit.
Regards
MM
The Chalo Team says
Hi MM,
1. A valid international vaccination certificate of yellow fever issued anywhere in the world would be accepted in India.
2. It is recommended that you take the vaccination 10 days before your arrival in a YF endemic country. However, Indian immigration officials will most likely check that your YF vaccination was issued at least 10 days prior to your arrival in India, which in your case is true.

Manish Khandelwal says
I have taken Yellow Fever vaccine at Dr. Hiranandani Hospital Mumbai. The Pediatric doctor at the centre has given a certificate on his letter head certifying that I have been administered the yellow fever vaccine.
I want to know if this certificate would be accepted by the immigration authority.
I am travelling on 6th September to Kenya and I would not have time to visit the APHO as I am travelling to Paris next week.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Manish, Most countries, including Kenya, require the international vaccination certificate for yellow fever — not a letter by a doctor. However, it depends on the immigration officials both in Kenya and on your return in India whether they accept the letter.
Priyanka says
Hi Manish,
Just curious to know, did you have any issue because you had taken the yellow fever vaccine from a private hospital? There is only one day for administering the vaccine in govt institute, which becomes a bit inconvenient, hence your response will be greatly appreciated.

b) If yes, what are the risks involved? (My wife is more concerned about my welfare rather than her own)
c) If a/waiver is at all possible, which authority will grant us the necessary exemption certificate?

I am travelling from Mumbai to Nairobi on 7th December. I was told that I can get Yellow Fever Vaccination from government hospital and so I got vaccinated from JP Hospital, Bhopal. The certificate is in the format given above and bears the seal of the District Medical Officer. Please confirm if the certificate will be acceptable to airport authorities. I already have company’s letter of invitation with me.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Lucky, It should be fine if it is a government authorized certificate.
anu says
Hi Good Day,
I am from Trinidad and have gotten my yellow fever shot when i was younger, however I lost my immunization card so then took a yellow fever reactivation shot because I wanted to travel to India. Do i still need to wait that ten day period before i travel?
The Chalo Team says
Hi Anu, yes, you will have to wait for the ten day period as the Indian immigration officials will be checking that. If you cannot prove that you got the YFV younger, they will only be going by the new certificate.
syed asher abrar says
Hi. I would like ask that, I got my yellow fever vaccination done on 19th december, 2014 and I will be leaving for Rwanda on 23rd december, 2014. Will I be allowed entry in Rwanda as I will be entering Rwanda before 10 days.
p.s. I will be returning India in a month time i. e somewhere around 22nd-23rd January.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Syed, you most likely will be allowed back into India as a month has passed. It is all dependent on how diligent the immigration official is.

Hi, I live in India and plan on visiting kenya in a few months and had received yellow fever vaccination and certificate in 1996 which expired in 2006. Do I need to take a booster shot since WHO has said in need the news that a booster shot is no longer needed for travel?.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Harry, If you plan to return to India you will need to take the YFV and get a new certificate issued. In spite of the WHO recommendations, the Indian Ministry of Health still requires you to take the shot.
mythily says
Hi, I am planning to travel to Kenya by March. My baby is 7 month old and is breastfed. Is it necessary for both of us to be vaccinated, as I read in one of the posts YFV is not recommended for breastfed babies and moms. Waiting for your reply at the earliest.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Mythily, Request you to contact one of the government-approved centers above to see whether they can issue an exemption certificate for your baby and you. Try RML Hospital in Delhi or one of the centers in your city.

Hi team. I wanted to ask that my yellow fever certificate issued in 2013 has reference number of my expired passport. Now I am going to zambia on new passport, so wheather my yellow fever certificate will be valid or not? Or I have to obtain a new Yellow fever certificate having new passport number.
Kindly reply soon.

Hi Ahmed, if you are carrying your old passport you should not have a problem. The YF certificate will be valid.
Sunil says
Hi, I got my yellow fever vaccination done in Jan 2009, in Dubai. in the card it is written valid for 6 years. Whereas i understand that usually the certificate is valid for 10 years. Do i need to get a vaccination again if in intend to travel to Africa?
Thank you.
The Chalo Team says
Hi Sunil, The vaccination in India is usually for 10 years. If your card says 6 years and it has expired, you will need to take it again for immigration officials to permit re-entry into India.
John Varghese says

The Chalo Team says
Hi Sukriti, there are private clinics which do the vaccination. However, since they are not listed on the Ministry of Health and Welfare website, we can’t say whether they will be accepted by the immigration officials.

Hi chalo africa, congrats for your commendable job.

(2)Does International Health Insurance/Travel Insurance/Overseas meclaim policy mean the same.
Now in a couple of months or so i will b going to brazil. Pl advise me as to when to hav my YFV. I believe in having it well in advance to hav a hassle free journey. Also pl mention some of the reputed Health Insurance co.s where I can get my policy. Note that Brazil visa demands International Health Insurance valid in Brazil. Eagerly awaiting ur valuable advise.

Hi Team,
I’m visiting Kenya for 4 days from Mumbai and will be heading to Dubai for 3 days. I know it’s mandatory to have a valid YFV Certificate while returning to India, but is it the same case with Dubai? What documentation should I need to carry with me or is there any other vaccinations other than YFV that is mandatory to enter Dubai ?
Also kindly let me know if any other vaccinations required for visiting Kenya ? I see OPV being mentioned in your site and couple of other places.

I got my polio (OPV) vaccination done in Bangalore.

Kempe Gowda Road, Bannappa Park
Bangalore – 560002.
(On the way to Majestic going from St. Martha’s Hospital, you can find the this PHC on the left).
It was a breeze. The doctor and the support staff were extremely good. They know the requirement and it got done in no time at ZERO Cost. Just carry your passport.

Can I get yellow fever vaccination done before finalizing travel dates and tickets so that I am ready to plan any day after 10 days of gap ?
Team Chalo Africa says
Hi Sudhir, Yes, technically you can get it done before finalising your travel dates. (The certificate is valid for 10 years.) However, because of a general shortage of the vaccine, the vaccination centre may ask for your tickets and passport. Best to check with them.
benn says
I have traveled to Brazil recently without yellow fever certificate. On return I was stopped at Brazil Sao Paulo airport by the middle east airline and denied boarding saying that I must need a yellow fever certificate to fly to India. I informed the airline that I am ready to go for quarantine in India if i stopped by the immigration authorities in Indian airport. But they asked me to take injection before i board and I had to cancel my flight and went for injection and next day after showing the certificate they allowed me to board. IN the same time they collected a signed indemnity form paper saying that the airline is NOT responsible for any consequences when I arrive in India
I have three questions
(a) Is the airline has got any right to hold a passenger in a foreign country where the passenger is ready to comply the rules of the home country ?
(b) Is there is any effect for vaccination with in a day after taking the vaccination.
(c) Why the airline could have collect the indemnity form and board me on the original date of departure
(c) What is the clear rule on this ? Where I can get this information. ?
(d) I am very grateful for your reply and guidance.
Thanks,
Benn
Team Chalo Africa says
Hi Benn,
To answer your questions:
(a) I’m not sure if they have the right to hold you back, but I know for sure that it is definitely better to have get the vaccination before entering India. A friend of mine was held in quarantine in Delhi for a week upon return from Brazil (because he hadn’t taken the vaccination). It was not a happy experience.
(b) Mild side-effects are possible, slight fever, etc. But nothing alarming in most instances.
(c) Not sure.
(c) What is the clear rule on this ? Where I can get this information. ? Clear rule is that you need to get the vaccination 10 days before going to a country with YF. You can read more here: http://www.mohfw.nic.in/WriteReadData/l892s/76822909481402912767.pdf

Rahul Patwardhan says
Hello,
My Wife is a Singaporean travelling from Singapore to Kenya via Mumbai airport (transit) and returning again via Mumbai (transit only) to Singapore.
The government approved vaccination center issued her with a Medical Waiver Letter for the Yellow Fever Vaccine – as she is on certain regular medications which put her at high risk if she is given the vaccination.
I have got confirmation from Kenya embassy in Singapore that she will be able to enter Kenya with this letter. I also have confirmation that she can re-enter Singapore with this letter.
However I read on the Indian Government Site that while a person arriving in India from Kenya can be exempt from producing the Vaccination certificate, they will not be exempt from quarantine for 6 days!! It is not clear if this applies only to people actually entering India OR only also to people just transiting through the airport.
I’m worried she might get held up for 6 days in a Mumbai airport quarantine. Could you clarify whether she can transit freely without worry or not please ! ( we are travelling in end September so we need to know to decide course of action)

I have a yellow fever card done in 2012. I had to renew my passport in 2016. So the passport number in the card is different from the current passport though I have the old passport also. Do I need to get a fresh card done or can I use the old one.

Hi Ganesh – You can use the same YF card. Best to carry both passports though.

Hi Anil, It’s not always accepted. The certificate has to be WHO authorized. A GOI-approved hospital is better.

Dear Sir / madam,
I need information about yellow fever vaccination.
According to World Health Organization Existing and new Yellow Fever vaccination certificates are now valid for life. The World Health Organization announced that as of 11 July 2016, countries can no longer require travelers to show proof of re-vaccination or a booster dose as a condition of entry.
I also read on the website of MINISTRY OF HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE of India that the above mentioned is also approved by this ministry.
Here are the links on which I received this information:
https://mohfw.gov.in/yellow-fever
http://ihrpoe.co.in/pdf/YF_Booster.pdf
Is this new regulation honored by the border authorities of India during the transition phase?
I was vaccinated against yellow fever in 2002, do I still need a re-vaccination or a booster dose for entry?
I thank you in advance for your willing cooperation.
Kind regards,

Hello, we are travelling to south Africa in December. We booked our flight from India to South Africa, which has a layover of 2-3hrs in Kenya. and our return ticket from South Africa to India, also has the same the layover.
As per the rules Yellow fever certificate is not required to enter south Africa if the layover is less than 12hours in kenya.
However, I want to understand, if Yellow fever Vaccine required to enter back in India.
Do we need to produce yellow fever vaccine certificate in Indian airport on our return to India.
