Chad: Health & Vaccinations
As with any foreign destination, it is important to check with your doctor(s) well ahead of your departure date regarding vaccinations and other necessary health precautions. Chad in particular requires adequate preparation, as healthcare access in the country remains limited, especially outside its capital of N’Djamena.
Malaria Recommendations for Chad
Chad contains no malaria-free zones; thus, it is imperative that you consult with your doctor 4-6 weeks prior to your travels about the medicines and vaccinations you will need.
Yellow Fever Vaccination Requirements for Chad
Chad requires a yellow fever certificate from those travelling from the following countries: Angola, Argentina, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Colombia, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guyana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sudan, Suriname, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, and Venezuela.
Travellers to Chad from USA or India who will not be transiting through any of the above listed countries will not need a yellow fever certificate. However, since Chad poses a yellow fever risk, a vaccination is recommended for tourists from all countries.
