The most important things to keep in mind before jumping into the world of African safaris are (in any sequence):
- What do I most want to do on safari? This will clarify almost everything else.
- What is my budget (exclusive of airfare to Africa)? This will then add or remove many locations and properties from your list.
- Are there any special animals (such as mountain gorillas) I want to see? Any special experiences I want to have (such as a Kili climb or snorkeling in coral reefs)? This will then point you in a particular direction.
- When, i.e. what time of the year are you able to go on safari? This will further narrow your choices. We can then build everything else around these specs.
What else should you keep in mind? That you are going on an adventure to an adventurous part of the world. Schedules may change, expected animals may vanish from sight and unexpected animals show up in their place, tires may puncture or a zebra may give birth before your eyes… in other words, be prepared to be surprised by at least a few things on your safari.
