Arusha National Park, Tanzania

Located at the base of Mt Meru, Arusha National Park is best known for its majestic views of the mountains, including Mt Kilimanjaro on a clear day. Despite its location, it is not one of the more popular parks in Tanzania. It is approximately 552 square kilometers in size and is popular with day visitors. In terms of activities, it is great for those interested in climbing. Canoeing is also possible on the Momela Lakes. Elephants are rare here and the Big 5 is mostly absent. In terms of wildlife, you'll be easily able to catch sight of the black and white colobus monkey along with various species of birds. The diversity of the park (mountains, lakes and forests) can make it a wonderful start to your safari holiday.
