7 Nights / 8 Days – Kalahari Migration Safari, Botswana
US$ 5,585 per person for a 8-day safari
Migration Safari in en-suite tents combined with 1 night Tau Pan Camp and helicopter scenic flight.
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve gets its name from the word ‘Kalahari' derived from the local Tswana word ‘kgala’ meaning ‘great thirst’. The Reserve covers an immense area of over 50,000km², most of which is still inaccessible, particularly to the south. Before your visit to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, we would recommend reading Mark and Delia Owens' iconic 'The Cry of the Kalahari.' The book describes the trying and fulfilling years the couple spent in Deception Valley researching the black-maned Kalahari lions, the surprisingly social brown hyenas and other carnivores. Visitors to the Kalahari will be usually greeted by an immense, arid landscape. During the wet season from December to March, you will get to see large concentrations of herbivores, including blue wildebeest, oryx and springbok who are attracted to the water-filled pans in Deception Valley after the rains. The recently-revived zebra migration also takes place near CKGR from about November when they congregate in Nxai and Makgadikgadi and make their way to the outskirts of the Boteti and Chobe Rivers, near the Okavango Delta.
